From the moment I truly discovered just how gifted Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were, my affinity with soul music, which had begun to wane in and around 1984, was revived; they were my musical Viagra. When you listen to some of the music now, it’s of its time, but that’s not to say it’s dated; far from it. New Edition were huge back then, but revisit the Heart Break album now and you can understand why they made such an impact. Life was breathed back into the careers of Herb Alpert, Thelma Houston and The Human League by the guys from Minneapolis and if this 12 track sampler of some of their productions encourages you to look back, or maybe consider for the first time, the amazing sound of Jam & Lewis, you’ll not be disappointed. I’ve been a fan for 26 years now and look forward to not only their new projects but getting to work on Volume 2 of The Music of: Jam & Lewis. Howard Johnson’s ‘Knees’ is waiting to be dusted down!
