28th October 2009
On The Hurst Selection this week, it’s a mainly new affair with all but three tracks come from 2009. Firstly though, as a mark or respect, 4 from this week comes from the Godfather of Fusion, Mr. Jeff Lorber. After taking time out recently with Brian Hurst, there is no doubt in our mind that not only is he one of the busiest men in the music industry today, but also one of the most talented. Four fine examples are on show here as we take a look back at classics from the ‘Fusion’ days alongside last year’s excellent ‘Heard That’ set and the smoking hot new CD from Terje Lie (Terry Lee) that he and Jimmy Haslip produced. From this we feature a new take on Roy Ayers ‘Red, Black & Green’ with Sharon Perry on vocals – we know you’ll love it.
Rewind. We start the show with one from the summer from Wrapt-Up feat. Mica Paris: a killer track. Next up and from the new Soul Togetherness ‘09 CD, we have a good groove from Richard Alexander Davis and then two lovely ladies: Tracy Hamlin, with the t/t from her latest album and the first of two tracks on today’s Selection from soul sister number one currently: N’Dambi. New names to us include Al Kent and William Green but allow us to show you why we consider their future to be bright. Available currently only at CD Baby, we have a welcome return from Marva King with a track from her new ‘The One’ set. Soulfully, we have music from The Revelation feat. Tre Williams, Charles Wilson, the return of Marcell & The Truth – what a tune by the way, and then from Manchester, Trus’me feat. Amp Fiddler: it’s an excellent combination. New this week is the forthcoming Club Des Belugas CD which features amongst others Brenda Boykin. We’re very happy to hear her again and it’s a great album too. Keeping the groove going is Sabrina Malheiros and then we pause to catch our breath with the Excellent Gentlemen, NZ’s Fat Freddys Drop, Matt Bianco and the truly wonderful Ellis Phelps. If you still haven’t picked up his ‘I’m Still Here’ CD, make that a must do this week. We finish off with some of the classics of the year to-date from M-Swift feat. Hazel Sim, S-Tone Inc. and Michael Olatuja
