Love From The Sun – 24th March 2010
What a better opening could their be for our first podcast on soulandjazz.com than the sublime Love From The Sun by Norman Connors, with the beautiful and smooth voice of Dee Dee Bridgewater. One of our all-time favorite tracks, so spiritual and deep like the rest of the playlist.
March issue, in fact, is focused on spiritual black jazz from the seventies and we want to share with you some ‘treats’ from historical labels like Black Jazz Records and Strata East: Western Sunrise by Doug Carn, First Impressions by Shamek Farrah and Soul Village by Walter Bishop Jr.
We continue with a very inspired Joe Henderson with his classic tune Tress-Cun-Deo-La, Chick Corea and Return to Forever with their initial band (with the singer Flora Purim, Airto Moreira on drums, Stanley Clarke on bass and Joe Farrell on Sax and flute), more or less the same band as in Butterfly Dreams from Stanley Clarke’s first album, but with the contribution of one of the gretest voice of our century, Andy Bey.
We have other contributions by Murk Murphy, with the Freddie Hubbard’s tune On The Red Clay, featuring an explosive horn section with the Brecker Brothers and David Sanborn, Carla Bley with Gato Barbieri on the Saxophone, Eddie Gale (trumpet player with the Sun Ra ensamble) a very funky Freddie Hubbard and The Descendant of Mike and Phoebe.
We finish the show with a love song: poet Ade Olatunji reciting a love declaration with Positive Force music in the background with the song Poem for My Lady. We wish we had written this song for our ladies…
Love From The Sun – 24 Marzo 2010
The Descendant of Mike and Phoebe.
