Hi Folks, and welcome to the July episode of Aquarium, the monthly Live Tropical Fish podcast on SoulandJazz.com.
We start the show with The Awakening and The Prologue from their 1972 album Hear, Sense & Feel, along with the incredible You taken from Kelle Patterson’s first album Maiden Voyage, both on Black Jazz Records, then it’s The Ahmad Jamal Trio with Wave from the 1970 album The Awakening.
We continue our musical journey with the First Cosins Jazz Ensemble and Please The Pleaser, with Wah Wah Watson on guitar and James Gadson on drums, The Pharaohs with Damballa from the 1972 album Awakening (a very popular title in the seventies…) follow ans does Phil Ranelin’s Vibes From The Tribe.
Then we have the Last Poets with It’s A Trip, with Bernard Purdie on drums, Pharoah Sanders with Moon Child and Weldon Irvine with The Power And The Glory, from his 1975 album Spirit Man.
Mike James Kirkland comes next with What Have We Done, from his 1972 album Hang On In There, Andrew Hill with Laverne from his 1975 album Spiral and The Elephant Trot Dance by Khaliq Al-Rouf & Salaam.
The keyboard player Larry Young plays the super-classic Turn Off The Lights, followed by Hummingbird by Ramsey Lewis taken from the 1974 album Solar Wind (listen the the Rhodes solo…) and Weldon Irvine again with We’re Getting Down.
The final tracks: Alphonse Mouzon with the track Crying Angels from his 1973 album The Essence Of Mystery, Larry Young again with Zoltan from the 1965 album Unity with Joe Henderson playing the saxophone and Elvin Jones on drums, and the saxophonist Rudolph Johnson with his track The Highest Pleasure from his 1973 album The Second Coming.
