Continuum – A Journey Through Jazz
Episode 12: Sultry Summer Nights
Greetings fellow travellers – in the past few weeks our journey through jazz has encountered summer grooves and summer soul . . . and this week it’s time to cool down. Let’s go sit on the porch as the sun goes down and enjoy a sultry summer night.
We start the evening off with Terence Blanchard creating a steamy New Orleans mood from A Streetcar Named Desire, and spend a little time smouldering down south with Monty Alexander and getting blue with Sidney Bechet. Eric Alexander keeps the blues rolling right into Octobop’s sultry Playboy Theme and the mood continues to ebb and flow with jazz luminaries such as Jamil Sharif, Bill Evans, Will Scruggs, Dexter Gordon, Ken and Harry Watters and Michael Brecker – all bringing a bluesy, steamy, sultry and sometimes romantic sound for a perfect summer evening.
So, turn off the lights and TV, light a couple of candles, grab a loved one and your favourite beverage . . . and enjoy a wonderful evening listening to some great jazz. Enjoy the ride!
