Continuum – A Journey Through Jazz
Episode 26: Cool Autumn Nights
For this episode I thought it might be nice if we had a little get together – you know, a casual dinner party at my house. I’ll be cooking up some Jazz Jambalaya for a gathering of some of my closest friends (of which you, of course, are included) in front of the fire to celebrate these cool autumn nights. Thus, I have selected an hours worth of music to serve as the backdrop, establish the mood and augment the atmosphere. If you wish to use this for your own event, dinner, party, or a gathering in front of the fire – please, feel free . . . that’s what it’s here for! Of course, you can also listen to it all by yourself any time of the day or night.
I picked a selection of eight fairly long songs for our hour together – so, you might have to put it on repeat and just let it play throughout the evening, or throughout the day – it’ll work either way. We start the evening with Atlanta jazz guitarist Dan Baraszu, and move on to Monty Alexander before dipping into the classics with Art Blakey & Horace Silver both at their best during their tenure with the Jazz Messengers. We then get a little mellow with the beautiful piano stylings of Lynne Arriale, Geri Allen and Bill Anschell . . . and close with the brilliant saxophone work of the late, great Michael Brecker.
Basically, it’s going to be a great night – the company is cool and the music is wonderful. . . so just kick back and dig as we journey through the Jazz continuum. Enjoy the ride – and I hope my cooking isn’t too spicy for you!
