Continuum – A Journey Through Jazz
Episode 28: Funky Fright-Fest
Happy Halloween!
To help you celebrate this irreverent holiday I have put together a party mix of fearfully funky jams that are scary good – with spooky sound effects & bizarre characters mixed in to create & maintain a monstrous mood.
We kick off the party with Joey DeFrancesco’s version of Thriller and then drop some serious funk on the Wolfman & Frankenstein along with various Night Creatures as they get down to the savage grooves of Hiram Bullock, Marcus Miller, Tom Scott & Voodoo Village…and, of course, we’ll all go Trick or Treating with the Voodoo Funk Project.
Once the sugar rush from the Halloween candy sets in, we’ll visit the Twilight Zone with the Manhattan Transfer, go to a freaky hotel with the Jacksons, watch the Ghost Dance with Alex Bugnon, dance to a Chiller-Thriller Groove from Bamm Davis, and fight off Monsters in the Attic with David Benoit. You don’t have to be afraid however, because – as Stevie Wonder so kindly reminds us as the party ends – Superstition ain’t the way. Enjoy the ride!
If you get scared, just give me a shout by writing to Scott@SoulandJazz.com. You can also converse with me via social media on Facebook & Twitter by searching for The Jazz Evangelist.
