Episode 37: New Year’s Eve Old-School Dance Party
The Holidays are winding down and the New Year is upon us . . . and thus, for the final show of 2010 I figured an old-school throw-down dance party would serve as an appropriate farewell to this rather funky year.
If you happen to preview this show prior to New Year’s Eve, that’s cool – but just make sure to download it to share with others on a rather loud device at your New Year’s Eve party. If the show is started EXACTLY at 11:00 pm on New Years Eve, you will be able to dance out the old year with one hour of extremely funky music – comprised of 13 killer tracks from the 70’s through the 90’s – ending with a countdown to midnight, complete with an “Auld Lang Syne” second line to welcome in the New Year.
Since 2010 is about to be a distant memory – and the popular music of today will be considered retro before you know it – I figured it wouldn’t be a problem to my jazz fans if I dedicated a show to some of the soulful funk & groove I’ve been digging and dancing to over the past 33 years including classic tracks from The Groove Collective, Kool & the Gang, Jamiroquai, L.T.D., Con Funk Shun, Heatwave, Roy Ayers, Brick, James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lakeside, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Michael Jackson & Incognito . . . ending with a New Orleans second line from the Rebirth Brass Band.
So – now that your New Year’s Eve party music is all taken care of . . . relax, enjoy the final moments of 2010, and I’ll be back in 2011 to continue our journey through Jazz together.
