This show marks my one year anniversary at SoulandJazz.com, so I’ve filled this episode with a variety of elements & styles explored on this journey through jazz. It’s entitled ‘Joy Spring’…because, well it’s spring and that’s a rather joyful thing on which to focus.
To celebrate these warmer days, brighter colors & rebirth of nature – Jazz legends Clifford Brown, Max Roach, and Art Blakey swing hard bop homages to spring…Ernest EC3 Coleman provides a touch of Jobim from his brand new CD…Pat Metheny promises ‘Better Days Ahead’…Khari Simmons, & the Brazilian Groove Band heat things up with some funky Brazilian rhythms . . . Quasimode presents something new, jazzy, and hopeful out of Japan . . . the Heritage Orchestra fills the sky with sounds of sweet Soul . . . and the Japanese Jazz pianist Hiromi plays us out with Joy.
Like the diversity of flora & fauna in spring, this show offers a potpourri of sound & style – from straight ahead hard bop, to Latin & Brazilian rhythms, to funk, groove, soul and back again. All in all, it’s fantastic, joyful music that will most certainly put a swing in your step and bring out the spring in your soul.
