Continuum – A Journey Through Jazz
Episode 54: Jazz-Funk 1977, Part 7
Welcome back to another journey through the Jazz Continuum! This leg of the voyage lands us in 1977 to explore the jazz funk grooves that led me deeper into my love and passion for the varieties of jazz.
We begin the same place we began in the previous episodes covering ‘75 and ‘76 . . . with the music of Earth Wind & Fire, then following several band members over to hear some work they did with Ramsey Lewis. Each album and artist I heard in ‘77 lead to the discovery of others, including many in this episode that made a huge impact on my listening tastes . . . such as Eddie Henderson, Gabor Szabo, Patrice Rushen, Noel Pointer, Jean-Luc Ponty, George Duke, Jeff Lorber Fusion, Jimmy Smith, First Cosins Jazz Ensemble, Freddie Hubbard and The Brothers Johnson.
Thirteen tracks of finger licking funk & fusion that will delight your soul and move your feet. Please send any suggestions of your favourite jazz-funk grooves from 1977 to Scott@SoulandJazz.com so that I can include them in upcoming episodes! You can also send them to me on Facebook & Twitter.
Agape ya’ll,
