Episode 55: 2011 World Grooves, Part 1
For this episode I thought I’d do a little something different – like, play some new music – music you may not have heard before – and, play a sampling of styles from all over the planet.
To that end I offer the groove of Italy’s Nicola Conte; the Afro-beat of Brooklyn’s Ikebe Shakedown & Germany’s Intuit; the Afro-Cuban-Yoruban-Funk of Israeli artist Idan K. & The Movement of Rhythm; the Latin jazz of the UK’s Rhythmagic Orchestra; some Afro-Cuban jazz from an ensemble of Atlanta jazz artists along with Ernest “EC3″ Coleman; a Joe Claussell Afro-Brazilian remix of a song by Lou Perez; a Brazilian folk song from Los Angeles jazz singer Gretchen Parlato; some Yoruban gospel soul from the Olatuja Project: Brazilian soul, samba & hip hop from Banda Black Rio; Bossa groove from Khari Cabral & Monday Michiru, and finishing up with some straight ahead African flavored jazz from Nicola Conte. Quite an eclectic trip!
