Continuum – A Journey Through Jazz
Episode 58: 2011 Jazz-Funk Grooves
Another episode of all new music for 2011 – this time exploring the funky & groove oriented side of the Jazz Continuum . . . contemporary and modern jazz, nu jazz, acid jazz, smooth and/or funk jazz.
We start with a quick trip to Japan to hear some Quasimode, followed by something brand spanking new from New Orlean’s favorite son – Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. Then we groove to the Funky Horns of Farnell Newton & Patrick Lamb, also explore some funk jazz with Fred Hammond’s alter-ego, Grandad Turner, followed by Atlanta’s rising star Khari Cabral, modern jazz bass with Kyle Eastwood & Kory Riker, acid jazz from Down To The Bone & Mr. President and we end with something very cool from Sean Khan.
I spend so much time enjoying jazz from the past century, often forgetting to check out all the new material coming my way – but this show is a strong reminder that jazz is continually on the cutting edge.
