Continuum – A Journey Through Jazz
Episode 63: 2011 Vocal Jazz Part 2
This week’s journey through the Jazz Continuum stays with the flow of new music for 2011 – focusing on vocalist, primarily from the realms of straight ahead jazz . . . but, of course, I had to mix things up a little with a few surprises.
The show opens with something brand new, soulful and funky from Maysa from her soon to be released CD, followed by some post bop from Terri Lyne Carrington (feat. Nona Hendryx on vocals), Josh Kyle provides a vocalese arrangement of a Herbie Hancock fusion classic, followed by the jazz stylings of Judy Wexler, Shirley Crabbe, Dianne Reeves, Jessie Davis, Andrea Wood, Andrea Wolper, Sasha Masakowski, Kurt Elling, Rene Marie, Norah Jones, and the vocal quartet Mad Romance.
14 songs that will swing your spirit and sooth your soul, featuring some of the best voices in the business. If I have thus far missed your favorite artists from 2011 it may well be that I don’t know about or did not receive the CD – so, let me know by writing to Scott@SoulandJazz.com. I always appreciate your suggestions & comments. You can also converse with me via social media on Facebook & Twitter by searching for The Jazz Evangelist.
