Extra Inches – Brit-Funk Vol.4
14th May 2010
Welcome to a further 12 track selection as part of Brit-Funk Vol.4 – proving as always that the UK for many decades has always had the ability to create great soul music.
Carleen Anderson & Jocelyn Brown gets us underway and although that might raise a few eyebrows, Carleen has honorary UK status! Imagination follow with an incessant beast of a track and then Loose Ends with music from their Look How Long set in 1990. Newer music comes from Soul Talk with the fabulous vocal talents of Gary Poole and Swing Out Sister also, with a track from their 2004 album, Where Our Love Grows. Julie Dexter, who now flies the flag for the UK whilst residing in Atlanta, is also classically in the mix, as are one hit wonders Savanna with the incredible I Can’t Turn Away. Great floor fillers come from David Joseph, The Funkmasters and Heatwave (Sounding somewhat like Shakatak in places) and then a further soulful offering coming from The Escofferys, and finally the cool Jazz-Funk of Sakhile. All marvellous stuff.
Stereo, not stereotypical
Enjoy!
