Decades: 1980’s Vol.2
Back with Volume 2, here’s another 11 tracks covering the 1980’s. There’s endless possibilities of what tracks to include here and it really is just a question of what to leave out until the next edition.
The evergreen Teena Marie kicks us off with a blistering track from her second album in 1980 and eases us into the relentless groove that War produce with You Got The Power; what a group they are by the way. Lionel Richie provides the third track with his best song outside of his Commodores days and then it’s over to Surface for some classic Salsoul boogie. Soul classics then come from Nicole with Timmy Thomas, Motown’s Gerald Alston and some gospel flavours from the immense group of sisters known as Perri. Classic soul then comes from the late Johnnie Taylor and Carl Anderson, with the latter’s amazing Buttercup – courtesy of Stevie Wonder’s pen. Ex-Miracles man Billy Griffin reminds us of his talent next and then we finish with the legends that are The Brothers Johnson. It’s a very nice way to spend sixty minutes.
