Welcome to the second instalment of The Ladies with a further 13 track selection to gently beat on your ear drums.
We mean business from the outset as Melissa Manchester gets us underway with a marvellous rendition of a Supremes classic. Steve Harvey’s inimitable production is featured here with Brigette McWilliams’ Actions (Speak Louder Than Words) along with soul classics from Rebbie Jackson, Dionne Warwick, Phyllis Hyman and Tamiko Jones covering Stevie’s Creepin’. From the Philly stable comes The Jones Girls, and out of Texas and from her debut set back in 1998 is N’dambi and Soul From The Abyss. At the jazzier end of the scale, Ledisi, Carmen Lundy and Tania Maria (From her wonderful new live CD It’s Only Love) offer a killer trio of music. Finally, the lady who’s in the middle of recording a new album currently, Cherrelle, with a track from her Tabu days back in 1991: Still In Love With You.
