Extra Inches: The Ladies Vol.1
The Ladies – a series that we know will run and run. Where though, is the right place to start? In no order of preference we begin with Cherokee from ten years back and her fine set ‘I Love You … Me’ – we play the marvellous ‘Misty’. The much missed Aaliyah is next, reminding us of the obvious talent this young lady possessed. Such vintage performers as Gladys Knight, Angela Winbush, Anita Baker, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan and Patti Austin are also on hand to lend some serious weight, not literally I hope you understand, to the proceedings. The once teenage sensation Evelyn Champagne King is also here, with the Kashif produced ‘Back to Love’, as are one of the great soul pairings: Millie Jackson and Isaac Hayes from the ‘Royal Rappin’’ set in 1980. Also here are Viola Wills with ‘Dare To Dream’ from 1985 and a lady with a very bright future: Debόrah Bond, with one of the soul cuts of the decade: ‘See You In My Dreams’. It’s all good.
