So this December is turning out to be the coldest on record here in Atlanta and because it’s so cold, I’ve decided to put together a selection that will surely warm your soul! Kicking things off is a fine selection from the Shaft in Africa Soundtrack, arranged and conducted by the legendary Johnny Pate. After hearing this, you’ll understand where Jay-Z got his inspiration from! Also in the opening set, unreleased live music from D’Angelo and very RARE sounds from The Clark College Jazz Band, recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
The Modern Soul world continues to grow larger by the day and music from Brandi Irvon, Waterseed and Lenora J will prove that this style ain’t going anywhere! Coincidentally, all those artists plus Julie Dexter, Anthony David, Carmen Rodgers, Heather Johnson and Nadirah Shakoor hail from the ATL!! So as you can see, we are far from experiencing a shortage of Soul in this city! As a matter of fact, I think we may be experiencing a bit of Soul overload…and that can never be a bad thing!
You know I had to end on an up-beat note and I’m featuring dance music from Sy Smith, EWF and Bill Summers, remixed by DJ Spinna and Ahmed Sirour! Speaking of Ahmed, I had to feature three selections that received the remix treatment from the young man who used to sit in on my radio show and now he’s the hottest thing in the remix game!! We’re so proud of him and all the brilliant work that he’s done thus far!
