Well, it’s been a month in waiting but well worth the wait. Welcome to the second edition of Downbeat!
This month’s show sees us through a smooth groove that starts off with classic Donald Byrd. From there, we move into a Stevie Wonder remake by Stefon Harris and Blackout, followed by sounds from a young lion in soul by the name of Rogiers. The East West Quintet will have you nodding your head right into Susan Baca’s rendition of Afro Blue. Through the rest of the show, we move from the hip-hop influences of DJ/ Producer Embee, on to new music from multi-instrumentalist Jamie Cullum, and finishing with the decidedly jazzy piano of Gene Harris, with stops everywhere in between. Overall, this two-hour ride is a relaxed groove – some head nodding and finger-snapping may be involved, but there’s no better way to spend an easy Spring afternoon!
