Welcome to July’s Downbeat! This month sees us well and truly into the summer, and looking for shade! It’s definitely too hot to move much, so this month we’ve got the perfect soundtrack to chill to…and a special treat! We start off with Lady Day, remixed, continuing on to James Farelli covering the Phil Collins original In the Air. Ladies and Gentleman, the stage has been set: the following two hours are filled with covers, remixes, and different renditions of songs you know and love. Maysa covers Bill Withers’ Ain’t no Sunshine, Saunders Sermons handles John Coltrane’s In a Sentimental Mood, and Gretchen Parlatto has her own take on S.W.V.’s Weak. Of course there’s new music – this month from Herbie Hancock and Avery Sunshine. And in a nod to some of those who have led the way, Kool & the Gang’s Summer Madness. Finally, we end in tribute to arguably the greatest entertainer of all time, Michael Jackson. As always, two hours of audio deliciousness!
