Jazz 60 (Remixed)
12th May 2010
It’s always a pleasure to get back in the booth and cook you all up some musical ‘gumbo’ for Jazz 60 (Remixed). Sometimes there is just SO much good music that it’s hard to select an hour’s worth but hey, I am certainly NOT complaining!
This week’s podcast, as always, consists of a musical blend of the classics as we kick off the show with my musical crush, McCoy Tyner. We also hear from ‘The Mighty Burner’ Charles Earland as well as ‘The High Priestess of Soul’ Nina Simone. We of course have to throw in some of the new music and vocalist Nnenna Freelon does not disappoint with her latest release Homefree. We touch on the Latin Side of things with new music out of Brooklyn from Movimiento and a not so new tune that I am sure you will all recognize courtesy of Pucho & his Latin Soul Brothers. And because jazz was born in America but enjoyed and appreciated worldwide, I felt it only right to end the show with an explosive tune from Japan’s Sleepwalker featuring the great Pharoah Sanders. You may want to prepare your speakers for this one…..it’s a hot one!
Once again, I thank you so much for tuning into Jazz 60 (Remixed). It’s always a pleasure to hear from my musical family so always feel free to reach out via nicole@soulandjazz.com.
Peace
