Making its debut this week is a new show for more traditional jazz lovers: welcome to The Jazz 60. Whether it be Cool, Hard Bop, Latin, Free or Soul Jazz or anything else in-between for that matter, there’ll be something for everyone, each week, in a one hour, HD podcast – downloadable only at a crystal clear 320 Kbps.
In the first show, we go back into the 50’s with Sonny Rollins from his ‘Saxophone Colossus’ album and The Modern Jazz Quartet with ‘Django’, this being the oldest track broadcast so far on S&J. There’s also Vic Lewis and his Allstars and Sahib Shihab with the marvellous ‘Please Don’t Leave Me’ from 1964. Newer music comes from Justin Vasquez, The John Patitucci Trio and something brand new from the timeless Count Basie Orchestra. There’s also a wonderful preview of the epic track ‘Everywhere’ from the forthcoming Gerald Wilson Orchestra album ‘Detroit’, which is scheduled for release in the USA for the end of September; we certainly couldn’t sit on it for that long though!
