Whilst the world is seemingly on vacation, The Hurst Selection remains firmly ensconced in a darkened studio and continues to provide music for a better life! Rocking our world this week are twenty-five uplifting tracks of soul and jazz that are guaranteed to brighten the wettest of summer days. M-Swift provide three excellent tracks from their new Evening Sun set which features the likes of Tony Momrelle and Eric Roberson. Eric himself has a new album due later in August and never one to drag our feet, we feature two tracks from that as well. We have 4 from: Schema Records, fast becoming one of the world’s great jazz labels, and a prelude to an Extra Inches special featuring more of their fine recordings, later in the week – expect to hear S-Tone Inc, Lorenzo Tucci, Nicola Conti and Rosalia de Souza in the meantime. There’s also something rather good from Michael Olatuja’s new album and a welcome return to Santucci Scoppa, who recently dropped a decent new set. There’s a chance to hear again excellent tracks from Jazzanova and also Freddie Fox with his wife Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King and their Maze cover: Happy Feelings.
On the Jazzier Side of Life Jamie Davis gets us underway with that amazing baritone range that he possesses, on a cover of Sly’s If You Want Me To Stay. There’s Latin elements from Nuyorican Soul and Ricardo Marrero, plus new tracks from the Sweden’s extremely promising The Quiet Nights Orchestra and from France, Quetzal with the vibe led sample, El Sol. We’ve got classics from the unsung hero that is Nathan Davis, the late, but great, Isaac Hayes and the rare but truly funky sound of 24 Carat Black from their debut set in 1973. Finishing off, we have another track from the Cindy Bradley album, something new from Clear Voyage and a little more Nicola Conti to ease us towards the end of this week’s Selection.
Enjoy!
