The Hurst Selection is certainly a mixed affair this week, with soul, funk and jazz thoughtfully represented. From new tracks from a new band, welcome to the Excellent Gentlemen. There’s also the world appeal of Zap Mama, with a track from their new album and the original Nuthin’ But A Party from UWF, or in this case, Roger Troutman and Charlie Wilson. We have 4 from: The Fatback Band, highlighting the great music of Gerry Thomas and Bill Curtis, where we look at tracks from four of their albums in the 70’s and 80’s. Newer music comes from Jaz Ellington (great name) and Gianna and we’re also reminded of just what a great singer Hil. St. Soul is. There’s classic soul from Kirk Whalum and Alex Bugnon and a chance to hear a track from the legendary Tommy Sims, with a marvelous track from Peace and Love; one of the greatest albums ever. To finish the soulful side of business, we take a look at two unreleased, original mixed tracks from Michael Jackson, from his forthcoming anthology: Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection. You may know the tracks but you probably won’t have heard these versions.

In Hour Two, on the Jazzier Side Of Life we get cracking with some tremendous vocal tracks: the Ye Solar Remix of I Can See by Jazzanova, the very talented Sophie Milman, with an amazing version of Love For Sale, something new from Mark Winkler and a classic from Jon Hendricks. There’s Clint’s Kyle, with a new track from his latest album and other interesting bits from M-Swift, Novox from France, The Baker Brothers and a blast of energy from Alexander Zonjic, with the title track from his new album. We finish off with the pace and passion of Auteur Jazz from Finland and then begin to think about the next selection.
