The Hurst Selection (6th July) returns with a heavy heart as we consider the musical world without Michael Jackson. We celebrate his music in 4 from: with classic tracks and rarer remixes.

New music in the first hour comes from Will Downing, The Tombees, Australia’s soul queen in waiting, Kylie Auldist, and the stand out track from the new Maxwell album, BLACKsummers’night. There’s also the groundbreaking 1980 Disco Mix of ‘Rapture’ from Blondie and an overlooked classic in the making from The Rebirth featuring Noelle Scaggs, plus Sweden’s Physics with a soulful cut from their new live set.

In Hour Two, on the Jazzier Side Of Life, music comes from New Orleans courtesy of the Hot 8 Brass Band, from Japan, M-Swift presents 24 Carat featuring a fine track from their new album ‘Blue In Black’. There’s the fabulous Sound Stylistics with El Nino and something a little different from Giant Step’s Joy Jones. There’s a classic track from Grupo-X from 2001 and great memories coming from the legendary Prestige Label with the likes of Patrice Rushen, Richard ’Groove’ Holmes and Boogaloo Joe Jones and finally a latin influenced trio from Teena Marie, Vanessa Willaims and the George Duke produced Larisa Dolina, who actually stems from Russia. Confused? I hope not. Just 120 minutes of the most varied soul and jazz you’ll find anywhere. Enjoy!
