Musical diversity remains a constant as The Hurst Selection (15th June) provides further proof this week that there is life over forty, as long as you’ve got the soul. In Hour One it’s in abundance as classics from Pockets, Sherrick and Spank get us underway, In his various guises, there’s 4 From: Raphael Saadiq, Makeda, with a stunning track from her latest album, Jeff Lorber on fine form from Heard That and the great Anthony David and India Arie duet: Words. In addition there’s The Supremes with Stevie’s Bad Weather and classics from Shirley Bassey (no, really), The Coasters, Carol Woods, the hugely underrated Mint Condition and last, but certainly by no means least, the multi-talented Van Hunt.

In Hour Two, on the Jazzier Side Of Life, hot new music comes from Quantic & The Combo Barbaro’s forthcoming album, the much talked about Marcus Johnson and Maysa track Master Of My Heart, East West Quintet’s excellent Gangster Rap, from Brazil the wonderful Márcio Local and from Finland, an outstanding track from Jukka Eskola. You’ll also hear classics from Randy Crawford, Joe Sample, Frank McComb, Twennynine featuring Lenny White, some great Jazz-Funk from Kent Jordan and Herb Alpert and the wonderful original Bossa groove of The Isley Brothers, Who’s That Lady.
