The Hurst Selection continues to groove this week as we open proceedings with Dr. Rubberfunk featuring the vocal talents of Roachford, with a new track from his forthcoming 2010 set ‘Hot Stone’. Terje Lie’s new CD ‘Urban Vacation’ is also set for 2010 but we’re can’t wait that long to play you two tracks featuring the great production work of Jeff Lorber and Jimmy Haslip. Amongst the fine female vocalists on offer this week are N’Dambi, Kim Arrington, Sherree Brown, Angie Stone, Kylie Auldist and classically so, Chaka Khan.

4 from this week features Impromp2, a big favourite of ours over the years, and perhaps a group that should be more widely heard with their very deliberate and distinctive soulful tones. From their debut ‘You’re Gonna Love It’ CD in 1995 to their current release ‘It Is What It Is’, here’s four great reasons to appreciate the Impromp2 sound.

If you’ re in amore up tempo mood then might we suggest Club Des Belugas or the Milano Jazz Dance Combo with tracks from their new CD’s, or perhaps the pure baritone brilliance of the Jamie Davis version of Stevie’s ‘Another Star’. We have Brazil’s very cool Márcio Local, with his ‘Happy Endings’ track from earlier this year along with new music from Marcell & The Truth and from 2008’s ‘The Way I See It’, Raphael Saadiq and ‘Never Give You Up’.

Music with a Northern Soul feel comes courtesy of Carnival Records as part of the Kent Dance series: ‘Carnival Northern Soul’ – a great compilation that features 26 fantastic cuts and includes the two tracks on offer here: Lee Williams & The Cymbals ‘It’s Everything About You (That I Like)’ and The Pretenders ‘I Call It Love’. Marvellous stuff.

Further classics come from Howard Johnson (x2), B.T. Express, Ingram, Shaun Escoffery’s marvellous ‘Space Rider’, Joe Sample along with Take 6 and some classic 80’s boogie with Stone and ‘Time’.
