The Hurst Selection continues to sparkle with clarity of sound as we once again present two hours of music at 320 kbps, or as we like to say, HD+.
A whole new show comes to town this week with new tracks in Hour One from Ellis Phelps, Marian Marie, Joe McBride, Q-Tip, Eric Roberson, N’Dambi and Ledisi. All of the aforementioned have new CD’s out, or in N’Dambi’s case, will have shortly, and all are worthy of a place in your collection. Special mention should go to Joe McBride for surely one of the albums of the year, and Ellis Phelps for the one that nearly got away. We’re up to speed now though and his ‘I’m Still Here’ CD, is an inspirational delight.
4 from this week, celebrates the music of Quincy Jones. It’s impossible even trying to portray such a career in just four songs, but for twenty minutes please enjoy music that covers the period from 1974 through until 1989. Ably assisted by Leon Ware, Minnie Ripperton, Patti Austin, Barry White, El DeBarge and James Ingram to name but a few, proof, if it was ever needed, of the talent of the man they call ‘Q’.
Before we move into the Jazzier Side of Life in Hour Two, there’s a track from Jamie Davies, one of Mr. Hurst’s favourite singers: from last year’s album ‘Vibe Over Perfection’, a cover of Sly and The Family Stone’s ‘If You Want Me To Stay. The good news is that Jamie is scheduled to appear at lunchtime on Sunday, 8th November at Ronnie Scotts, on behalf of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. Brian Hurst will certainly be in attendance and so should everyone in London on that day. For further information please contact Heather Davis: heather@unity-music.net
On the musical front, there’s new music from NYC courtesy of Nicholas Kopernicus, Finland’s Dalindeo and Big Bang with the 24 Carat Black Remix of ‘Summer Fields’. There’s also the great title track from the Ellis Phelps CD ‘I’m Still Here’, plus Ronnie Laws, Robert Glasper and from earlier this year, something a little left-of-centre from Emanative. Classics then come from Sea Level, Bob James, Sergio Mendes & the Brasil ’77 and Yutaka, with the infectious ‘Brazasia’. Nicolay, one half of The Foreign Exchange, finishes the proceedings with the track ‘Shibuya Station’ from his new album ‘City Lights Vol.2’.
