The Hurst Selection thrusts itself into August with twenty-six magnificent tracks, combining for a two-hour audible feast. In Hour One, there’s mid-80’s grooves coming from Howard Johnson, Smoke City and the enduring Patti Austin, there’s also 4 from: Incognito – for nearly thirty years, a UK institution and in Bluey, a man who truly does deserve official recognition for his contribution to the arts. There’s a track from George Benson’s forthcoming album Songs and Stories, new tracks from Excellent Gentlemen, Mayer Hawthorne and Freddie Fox with his wife, Evelyn King, and their fine cover of Maze’s Happy Feelings. Rounding off the first sixty minutes are classics from Prime Time and Paul Johnson’s Paradise, with the outstanding One Mind, Two Hearts.

On the Jazzier Side of Life in Hour Two, music comes from the US with new grooves from Alexander Zonjic, the very funky Cindy Bradley and the Lamont Dozier penned tune for George Benson, to be found on the upcoming album. There’s further classics from The Jeff Lorber Fusion and Roy Ayers Ubiquity and from the UK, we’ve dusted down some ’83 vintage vinyl for Animal Nightlife’s Native Boy. From Germany, we couldn’t resist again the Ye Solar Remix of I Can See by Jazzanova and from Brazil, it’s a track from Clara Mareno’s latest offering. The last five tracks originate from the burgeoning Italian Jazz scene, aided in no small way by those good people at Schema. Lorenzo Tucci, Rosalia de Souza, S-Tone Inc., Gerardo Frisina and Emily Jones all do the trick and finish beautifully one of the best sounding shows to-date.
