The Hurst Selection refuses to be sucked into the Christmas palaver for the time being as it remains business as usual at S&J until the 24th December at around 6:00 p.m. From that moment on…

Musically this week we consider January’s 52nd Grammy Awards and in 4 from look at some of the nominations in the following categories:

Best Female R&B Vocal Performance – Lalah Hathaway
Best Urban/Alternative Performance – The Foreign Exchange
Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance – Calvin Richardson
Best R&B Album – Maxwell

The show gets underway though with fine music from Dr. Rubberfunk featuring Roachford, Kabanya-Chemise with ‘Sky Blue’, followed then by the underrated soul of Impromp2. Variety being the spice of life ‘n’ all, five tracks are next with much of that in abundance: Schema’s Alessandro Magnanini, the interesting Joy Jones, Austria’s Lungau Big Band (?) featuring the very talented Tony Momrelle, new music from Osunlade and one to watch for 2010 – Andreya Triana, on this occasion alongside Bonobo on ‘The Keeper’.

Marcell and The Truth have just released their sophomore project entitled ‘Symbols’ and the killer track ‘It’s Kinda Like’ is here alongside a track from their debut set.

The pace is raised with older tracks from Jiva and Incognito and then a blast of The Soul Harmonics with the title track from their latest CD. Older tracks on offer come from The Sugarhill Gang, Breakwater, Collins and Collins, Jackie Moore, Love Committee, Kleeer and something very classy from the late, great Luther Ingram.
