The Hurst Selection returns for March with a twenty six track selection. Firstly though, we’re sure that most of you are aware of the untimely death of The Dramatics’ Ron Banks at the age of just 58. As a mark of respect and as way of tribute, this week’s 4 from features three tracks from the legendary group and one from Ron’s solo project in 1983. A great falsetto and a man who to many of us epitomised part of that amazing soul group culture of the 1970’s. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family. R.I.P.

New music is generally the order of the day as we present a cornucopia of delight of what’s on offer currently and other gems to come. Here and now: Adriana Evans with two tracks from her latest set and likewise Dreemtime from ‘New York Lounge Funk’. Also on the newer side of life is music from David Mensah, the return of Ali Ollie Woodson alongside Tour De 4Force from the ‘Quiet Moon’ set, Somi, Sunlightsquare, Trizonna McClendon, Jeremy James, Dira, José James, The Whispers and Daniel Moore, As mentioned in Jazz 60 of all places, The Whispers Orchestra have a new CD entitled T.W.O. Featured here is the Russell Thompkins JR led ‘Family’. The Stylistics meet The Whispers? It use to be The O’Jays meets The Moments but this is soul music for 2010 and at its very best.

And so to what’s coming our way over the next few months: Erykah Badu from her forthcoming ‘New Amerykah Part II’ project, Jonathan Butler from his ‘So Strong’ CD, Angela Johnson with a track from ‘Better’, Dru & Perez (The Modernists) featuring Omar, the fabulous Live Tropical Fish with music from their long awaited album ‘The Day Is Too Short To Be Selfish’ and finally Avery *Sunshine with two tracks from her equally anticipated eponymous set. Trust us when we say, we know a good thing when we hear it.
