The Jazz 60 – 9th March 2010

Back again for March and it’s a 10 track selection with a Spring like feel to it. Europe is represented by Poland’s Jazz Engineers and their wonderful ‘Tap Tap’ and Turkey’s Can 7 with ‘Fruitcake’ which was originally released back in 2003 but can now be found on a new compilation called ‘Modern Jazz Cafe Vol.4. We also have Sweden’s Roman Andrén, with a fantastic track from his amazing album ‘Color Green’ Great music and a great guy too. From the good old U.S. of A we have two tracks from NYC’s finest: Claudia Hayden. Her new CD ‘Abstract’ may be a little hard to come by but as is often the case, we’re first out the starting blocks; it’ll be worth the wait. Randy Muller’s new project Soul Biscuits provides us with ‘Beautiful Day’ and Ripple’s former Bass man ‘Keith ‘Doc’ Samuels returns with Waveform and a great track from his forthcoming set. The ATL’s GroovProject have a new set called ’Electric Vibes’ and from it comes ‘Natural High’ – a thoughtful and mature piece of work which takes us back to the days of Pleasure et al. Tribe return after over 30 years absence with ‘Rebirth’ and the track we feature here is called ‘Ride’; incredible. Finally, The Whispers Orchestra with Jafunk from their T.W.O. set. If you do only one thing this year, buy this CD. It’s nostalgic, refreshing and fabulous all in one. Can’t say fairer than that!
