The Jazz 60 – 6th November 2009
Another week, but not just another collection of music. Jamie Davis, in London for a special Sunday lunchtime session at Ronnie Scott’s this weekend, gets us underway with a belter of a version of Sly’s ‘If You Want Me To Stay’. Classics follow from Bernard Wright, Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers and the versatile Dee Dee Bridgewater, with her take on ‘Tequila Mockingbird’. We have a marvellous version of Stevie’s ‘Creepin’, performed by one of Brazil’s leading exponents of jazz: Kenia, plus some 70’s Spyro Gyra, and the hugely talented, Rachelle Ferelle, with a track from her George Duke produced ‘Individuality…’ set from 2000. From the current decade, we have the incredible soulful delivery of Lori Perry and great music from 2009 courtesy of Walter Beasley, Peter White, Nathan Haines and that man again: Fred Horn!
