The Jazz 60 – 16th September 2009
On The Jazz 60 this time round, music comes primarily from the vaults of the Blue Note and Prestige labels. An eight track selection, which see music recorded in 1956 though until present day and features legend such as Freddie Hubbard, plus Sonny Rollins alongside John Coltrane. There’s the Richard ‘Groove’ Holmes with his version of ‘Misty, plus the funky sound of Gene Ammons. Newer music comes from The Blue Note 7 with their interpretations of classic tracks written by Cedar Walton and Herbie Hancock and finally, the Hammond led ‘Pool Shark’ by Willis Jackson and Carl Wilson to round off this week’s proceedings. As someone once said recently, “Nice”.
