Ahhhhh…the sweet sounds of Summer are all around us and this edition of the
S.O.U.L. of Jazz is the perfect soundtrack to warm (or blazing hot in the ATL’s case!) Summer vibes. On deck is a percussion heavy jazz set from the likes of Ralph McDonald, Francisco Mora, and siblings, James & Jason Yarde. I had to take it back to the 90’s with Omar, Nobukazu Takemura and Outside to remind everyone how soulful that era really was!
I would be remiss if I didn’t play Georgia Anne Muldrow’s touching tribute to The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The one year anniversary of the man’s passing is upon us and I couldn’t think of a more befitting tribute. Atlanta’s Kai Alce and Kayenne team up with UK soulful dance don, Phil Asher, for what is turning out to be a global dancefloor anthem! Soulpersona, who get my nomination for producer of the year, gives us his 21st century retouch of Jean Carne and Freddie Hubbard. Closing things out is a killer UK Jazz dance set from Femi Tomowo and JTQ.
