FOLDEDSPACE – October 2014

In the meantime, here’s some more details about the show:
As the autumnal storms sweep in I have comforting tunes to feed the mind, body and spirit. First off, an exclusive interview with The Family Stone (ex - Sly and the Family Stone) where they tell me about their 47 years in the music business and their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On the leftfield tip I have music from Phillippe Edison, Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie and the legend that is Emanative (Nick Woodmancey) with his epic homage to Sun Ra.
For out and out vocal perfection both Jordan Rakei and Jarrod Lawson feature with their sweet as honey vocals. There are two great tracks from instrumentalists Cory Henry (Snarky Puppy) and Darryl Reeves, plus new kid on the block double bassist Max Luthert (Zara McFarlane, Peter Edwards Trio) who has just dropped a fine LP. There's exclusive new material from the Cecilia Stalin & Khari Simmons who, along with acclaimed producer Daz-I-Kue, have taken a classic and given it an incredible contemporary twist. There's an amazing tune from vocalist Liz Elensky and our Blue Note homage track comes from legendary drummer Art Blakey.
To top it all off we have a quick chat with vocalist Georgia Mancio who discusses her Revoice Festival which takes place in October and features live performances from, amongst others: Carmen Lundy, Claire Martin, Rebecca Parris and Vinx.
Two hours that take you around the world (musically speaking). If you enjoy don't forget to hit me up on the social media thing: Facebook, Twitter and tony@soulandjazz.com - you choose!
Allow me to take you to a musical happy place.
Tony

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has a new release on Sony Legacy entitled 'That’s It' - their first ever album of original material in their 53 year history. So, who are they, and what have they been doing over the past half century? The Jazz Evangelist thinks that question deserves a two hour answer.
To that end, Scott Fugate brings you a special showcase featuring the music, message and history of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band - established in 1961 to protect, preserve and perpetuate Traditional New Orleans Jazz.
Preservation Hall is not simply a singular group or a band – they are a living, breathing institution that has spanned three generations of New Orleans musician and has involved hundreds of master musicians and jazz icons over its 53 year history, and seen the release of 29 albums, including their brand new release. This showcase is an overview of their legacy, history, influence and introduces you to a lot of great New Orleans Traditional Jazz.
