Welcome to June’s Downbeat! As we end our celebration of Memorial Day, here in the States, I couldn’t help but be inspired by the Summer to come! But if you are familiar with weather in Atlanta, you know weather consistency doesn’t settle in until you’re begging for relief! So this month’s sound mixes some cool grooves with a little bit of heat…cool, relaxed grooves from the likes of Frank McComb, The Jazz Crusaders, and Indigo Vibe, blended in with some head-nodders like DJ Spinna, Deejaykul and Roy Ayers. Of course, there is also some new music on deck: Yahzarah, Raheem DeVaughn, and Nneka all share new tunes with us this month, but I must admit I’ve been tinkering with the thought of classics re-done. Hmmm…a thought for next month, maybe?
