So here it is another edition of FOLDEDSPACE to warm your cockles.
I’m a proper big time fan of the female trio that is Love Unlimited sound, lots of strings, soulful bass lines and the nurturing talents of Barry White – you just can’t go wrong – always find it hard to choose my favourite track from those girls but hopefully the one I’ve chosen does them justice.
Vocalist Gretchen Parlato is the lady of the moment and her new LP ‘The Lost and Found’ is a revelation, so much so that I’ve included four tracks from her for your approval. Also heavily featured are big tunes from Alex Wilson, Beady Belle and New Jersey based Plantlife.
I’m particularly enamoured with the new LP from Italian DJ and musician Nicola Conte – ‘Love and Revolution’ – a real mixture of the future paying homage to the past with its feet firmly planted in the present.
I also decided to give Santana’s ‘Welcome’ LP from 1973 a bit of a run out just to let those unaware of its existence a chance to catch up – I was at a loss as to which track to choose as every single one on there is just a little bit special – just like Marvin’s ‘What’s Going On’ and Miles ‘Kind Of Blue’ this offering from Santana is a must have to ensure that your record collection is complete.
The Brazilian bases are covered with Grupo X (feat. Julie Dexter) – it begins with a killer bass line augmented by Julies exquisite vocals and is guaranteed to melt even the hardest of hearts.
Hopefully you’ll find something in this edition to put you in a musical happy place.
