My mum is a woman heavily weighed down by wise sayings and pearls of wisdom. Two particular favourites of hers are “Always wear clean undergarments etc. etc.” and “When in doubt make sure you have a good show tune to fall back on”. I always heed the former but the latter I have re-worked to include all music of quality. This months’ offering is positively overflowing with quality with Earth Wind and Fire and The Impressions supplying some sublime soul. Also featured is one of my favourite Brazilian artists Gal Costa with something a little bit special from her 70’s album ‘Cantar’.
Mark de Clive-Lowe (now US based) is always a force of nature who never disappoints and his offering this time round is particularly uplifting. We have Soia Und Mez – a duo based in Vienna – providing a neo soul piece of heaven which has completely blown me away.
I love Tortured Soul and they are led by the talented drummer and singer Christian Urich. There first album was simply called ‘Introducing’ and I thought I’d bring you one of my favourite tracks from it which I hope you’ll enjoy. Michel Le Grand is a big jazz composer and a master of the OST (original sound track) – decided to bring you something epic from him and while I’m at it, something also big from Mr Sonny Rollins.
Magic Number is a young composer from the UK who’s debut album ‘That Day’ is overflowing with beautiful melodies so I was hard pressed to find one to bring you as they’re just all so good – hopefully ‘Sun Song’ pushes all the right buttons.
There’s plenty more on offer from D’Angelo to Chicago to Jones/Sirour – and they’re all marked with that stamp of quality, so please enjoy.
