Summer’s definitely here and my aim this month is to reflect that in the tunes on offer. I’ve neglected the Latin jazz genre of late so I’ve remedied that with a big tune from the vibes master Cal Tjader called Serengeti – with its sweeping keyboards and feel good vibraphone it’s ideal for those long hot summer afternoons. The ladies – Elizabeth Shepherd (Toronto based) and Cecilia Stalin (London based but originally from Sweden) provide some great jazz vocals on their respective tracks.
I’ve got nothing but love for Deborah Bond at the moment. This ladies newly released debut set called Madame Palindrome is getting me all hot under the collar. Proper soul/ jazz vibes all wrapped up with some great vocals. The track on offer is Blind Paradise and it will definitely put you in a happy place.
We’ve some great contemporary fayre from UK based Atjazz and Secret Stealth which should not disappoint and we play special tribute to Weldon Irvine by playing two tracks from his 1973 LP Time Capsule. Brass Construction drop a big one in the form of Changin’ which brings back many memories of school discos and family parties and the timeless Don Blackman leaves us begging for more with an offering that is dripping with soul.
Altogether, a cheeky little combination of tunes guaranteed to make your heart sing.
