The Hurst Selection returns in celebratory mood as SoulandJazz.com reaches its first birthday along with Mr. Hurst, who on the same day also celebrates a birthday – his twenty-first (again).
Musically then, here’s a 23 track selection that epitomises the essence of what SoulandJazz.com is truly about: Classic Grooves, Jazz-Funk, Disco, Soul and plenty of essential new bits; all in one portable podcast! In fact around two hours of the good stuff that you should certainly treat your ears to. It would be rude not to.
From the Ohio Players, The Jacksons and The System, it’s a super solid start that leads us into incredible new tunes from Italy’s Live Tropical Fish, The Whispers Orchestra, Avery *Sunshine and the evergreen Tour De 4Force. From Macedonia there’s Vladimir Četkar, from Cuba, Irakere and from Baton Rouge, Ms. Claudia Hayden with a killer cut from her smoking hot set Abstract.
We even polished our disco balls today and rolled out classics from Tata Vega, Rose Royce, Al Wilson and Mr. Don Downing; fabulous. Before we ease into the Soul, jazz beats come from Sweden’s Nils Landgren Funk Unit, Japan’s incredible ‘Soil and “Pimp” Sessions, and Finland’s Povo. Real world music we think.
Eugene Wilde returns for 2010 with Germany’s Cool Million whose Back For More set is one of this year’s essential purchases. Classis Soul then comes from the legendary Deniece Williams, Dayton and Mr. Keith Washington.
Finally, from Holland we have Giovanca with the choice cut from her While I’m Awake set and rounding off proceedings splendidly, Sweden’s Roman Andrén with the title track from his excellent album Color Green.
