The Hurst Selection returns this week with a twenty-six track selection of the highest quality. With the emphasis on soul, funk and boogie, we get things underway with tracks recorded earlier this year from Uptown Funk Empire, Nathan Haines and Sunlight Square.
4 from comes from New Bedford’s finest: Tavares. A group that’s been around for forty years, we present four perfect reasons why their music should feature in everybody’s collection. From ‘Hard Core Poetry’ in 1974, ‘In The City’ in 1975 and the truly exceptional ‘Madam Butterfly’ in 1979, we think we’ll leave you in no doubt.
The wonderful N’dambi follows with ‘L.I.E.’ then Excellent Gentlemen from a few months back, Kirk Whalum – from his forthcoming set ‘The Gospel According To Jazz, Chapter III’, Kem with his take on ‘The Golden Time Of Day’ and Nathan Watson’s ‘Loveline’.
Looking back, we have music from Scotland’s finest: Steve Harvey along with Rahsaan Patterson, April Hill, Jean Carne, Willie ‘Beaver’ Hale from ‘Beaver Fever’ – It’s true!, Mass Production, Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers and Skyy’s ‘Here’s To You’. True classics.
We finish off back in 2009 with new music from Tracy Hamlin, Peter White and Basia, Fred Horn (?), Michael Olatuja, M-Swift and Will Downing signing us off with a gem from earlier in the summer.
