The Jazz 60 – 23rd September 2009
On The Jazz 60 this week, we take a more contemporary route as we look at new music from 2009. We start with Sophie Milman and her incredible version of ‘Love for Sale’ from her latest CD ‘Take Love Easy’. Another lady, who’s been around for many years, is Basia, who joins Peter White on ‘Love Will Find You’, a great new track from his ‘Good Day’ set. Eric Benet pops up on Najee’s new release: ‘Mind Over Matter’ and then from another man who’s been round for even longer – Ronnie Laws, an excellent track from his digital only release: ‘Voices In The Water’. The ladies Jessy J and Candy Dulfer bring us tracks from their latest CD’s and then it’s jazz meeting soul with music from Terence Blanchard featuring Bilal. We then have a track from one of the albums of the year so far, Joe McBride’s ‘Lookin’ for A Change’, leading us nicely into grooves from Brian Bromberg, Robert Glasper, Stefon Harris and Blackout and then another track for Terence Blanchard’s album. We finish off with ‘Exotica’ from George Benson’s ‘Songs and Stories’, making this a thirteen track, cross-selection of jazz inspired flavours.
