Sony Music Showcase – Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Sony Music Showcase

Preservation Hall Jazz Band

SonySony Music is home to a plethora of labels which historically have provided soul and jazz of the highest order: Sony Jazz, RCA, Columbia, Epic, CTI, Buddah, and Kudu. Their catalogue allows for some quite incredible programming.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has a new release on Sony Legacy entitled ‘That’s It’ – their first ever album of original material in their 53 year history. So, who are they, and what have they been doing over the past half century? The Jazz Evangelist thinks that question deserves a two hour answer.

To that end, Scott Fugate brings you a special showcase featuring the music, message and history of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band – established in 1961 to protect, preserve and perpetuate Traditional New Orleans Jazz.

Preservation Hall is not simply a singular group or a band – they are a living, breathing institution that has spanned three generations of New Orleans musician and has involved hundreds of master musicians and jazz icons over its 53 year history, and seen the release of 29 albums, including their brand new release. This showcase is an overview of their legacy, history, influence and introduces you to a lot of great New Orleans Traditional Jazz.

Your feedback is always welcome and we hope you enjoy another unique presentation from SoulandJazz.com.

  • Stax Records Showcase - Classic Stax #1. Stax Records is iconic. Synonymous with Southern soul music – think Otis Redding, Booker T. & the MGs, & Johnnie Taylor. The list is a great one & remains as important today since its inception back in 1959. Starting off the first of our Stax Showcases is Brian Hurst who takes you back to the early 70s for 15 glorious slices of soul. The Staple Singers plus music from The Dramatics? You get the picture. As we like to say – 60 minutes of the good stuff.
